Aqueduct - Or Give Me Death

In ancient times, aqueducts were constructed to transport vital water resources from one location to another. Today, Aqueduct  conveys equally vital, catchy music to the band's devoted listeners. What began as a one-man act in lead singer David Terry's bedroom has culminated in the Seattle-based indie-pop group's third full-length release; Or Give Me Death.

The record's outset is soft and contemplative. Acoustic guitar intertwines with reminiscent voices, discussing the feelings of singing while driving on the highway. This melodic and poetic way of interpreting ideas is a palpable theme throughout the album, as the "characters" in the lyrics seem to express commonalities with everyday people. The nostalgic opening track, Lying in the Bed I've Made, establishes strong lyrical composition and obvious word play – "I've been a father to you all / and for the most part / I've been a perfect stranger too " – and portends the ironically sad yet warm demeanor that characterizes the album. Other songs describe different stages of love. Just The Way I Are, the story of a boyfriend who is fervent for his lover, is perhaps overdone. Those who have given up on love may empathize with the feelings expressed in Zero The Controls - "This is a song for all the lovers / or anyone who's playing spy-hunter."

Supported by offbeat, happy synths and quirky, catchy lyrics, David Terry and his musical entourage have again succeeded in producing unique, captivating, and melodic music. Catch this album and savor it yourself in the waters of a superb musical experience.
