Born as a brainchild to a volunteer in Philadelphia, PA in 1991, the 17th annual Dining Out For Life will be held on Thursday, April 24 in 47 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, raising awareness and crucial funding for nonprofits dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS. The event has become an annual social marker and is graciously supported by sponsors, restaurateurs, media partners and volunteers. “
At Subaru of America, it is both a pleasure and a priority to support causes that are important to our customers,” states Chief Marketing Officer Tim Mahoney. “As a company that prides itself on being a good partner to the community, we are delighted to sponsor Dining Out For Life for the second year in a row.”
On a single day, countless meals will be served, thousands of restaurants donate a generous portion of proceeds and millions of dollars will be raised for HIV/AIDS services across North America. “This event is one that works on so many levels,” according to K. Richard Fiero, of Barrio Café in Phoenix, Arizona. “Barrio means neighborhood [and] with HIV/AIDS on the rise among many facets of the community, we believe in giving back. “Participating in Dining Out is a no-brainer,” says Mark Howard, owner of FEZ Restaurant & Bar in Phoenix, Arizona. “Last year, we were ecstatic at the turnout – our regulars and many new patrons supported the cause making us proud to be part of such a valuable effort. With the increase in HIV infections among ALL segments of our society, we must do everything we can to stop this horrific disease and help those affected and infected to live healthy, productive lives.”
For Jeffrey Alexander, acting as a volunteer Ambassador at participating restaurants for Dining Out For Life in Philadelphia over the past 5 years has been a rewarding experience: “Dining Out is an excellent way to spread the word about ActionAIDS and an even better way to connect with the community.”
