The Shop
Fiori Floral Design uses only the most exquisite flowers.
The shop offers a combination of alluring,
sophisticated and organic floral compositions for all occasions. Fiori
has been Seattle's smart preference to traditional flower shops since
the mid-nineties. Tucked away behind a green façade on E.
Pike and Summit, the Fiori design studio is small but filled
with every facet of floristry you can think of.
When I visited the studio
to acquaint myself with the shop, the proprietor,
Miles Johnson, lightly moved around the room, grabbing bits of this
and that, as he pieced together his designs. The worktable was set with
mirrors and a series of track lights, enabling him to approach the design
from every angle. Telling me that he only uses high-end
product, I watched as Johnson
picked through an assortment of flowers, carefully placing them within
his design. “We’re different,” Johnson explained, “This
is about design and feel. This isn’t just mass producing
arrangements.”
This careful procurement of products has gained them
extensive recognition and has enabled them to provide services to local
and national bigwigs. To name a few: Louis Vuitton, Cartier,
Microsoft, Nordstrom, Starbucks, Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Symphony
and Wild Ginger restaurant. Fiori has been featured
in Vogue, Romantic Homes, Seattle Bride, Seattle Homes & Lifestyles
and several other publications.
Design
As with
any art form, design is everything; you have to have something that
sets you apart from your competition; something
that announces you as exceptional in your field.
The world of floristry is no different. Fiori has adopted
the pavé style— a term used to describe
the placement of precious stones on jewelry. The French term means to
set stones closely together to give the appearance of covering the entire
surface. Johnson describes
this technique: “the artist places flowers closely together
to create arrangements that appear to be made entirely of blossoms.
In glass vases, stems are hidden by leaves so the focus remains on the
flowers. We make intentional choices so that no element is used just
as filler, but is integral to an arrangement's beauty and structure.”
Beyond the pavé concept, Fiori uses a variety of monochromatic
color schemes with a combination of clean, well-defined lines
to create a single piece of art rather than just a bouquet.
