derived from watching the blade of a paddle slice into water, the smooth
glide across a glistening lake, a cool wind across the waves, droplets
of water breaking the still of the surface with tiny, rippling waves.
Sounds romanticized, but if you’re lucky enough to be on one of the
area’s waterways around sunset you’ll probably view these ostensibly
tripe musings as the rosewater truths of the Kayaking aesthetic. But
sentimentality is only one aspect. If you have kids, they’re bound
to end up drenching each other in a spirited splash-fight. And a rousing
race across the Montlake Cut will produce a satisfying form of exhaustion
